Telegram founder Pavel Durov criticized the French government for attempting to ban encryption, stating it threatens digital privacy. French lawmakers nearly passed a bill that would force messaging apps to include backdoors for law enforcement access. Durov praised the National Assembly for blocking the legislation, arguing it would eliminate citizens’ digital privacy rights. He also stated that introducing backdoors weakens security.
